Roseden - Roddam - Ilderton Circular Walk.

Introduction

This circular walk follows roads and tracks through the village of Ilderton and surrounding countryside.

There are a few possible starting points but parking is best found between Roseden and Roddam Hall.

Views of the Cheviot Hills and Berwick Moor are superb so the walk is best done on a fine clear day.

Total Distance is about 4 miles.

Toilets - none along the route, nearest are near Middleton Hall and Wooler, or Powburn Filling Station if travelling from the South.

Walk

We started the walk near Roddam Hall and walked in a clockwise direction - you could go the other way if you wished.

This part of the walk is on a quiet country road past Roddam Hall until you reach a T Junction.

At the junction is a very unusual entrance built to resemble a castle. In the entrance is a postbox.

Turn right here (signed Calder) and follow this long straight section of tree lined road. Signs warn motorists of red squirrels crossing the road but we saw none - no doubt they saw us first!

After a while you will reach a junction where the tarmac road turns left and a track turns off to the right. Follow the track to the right which leads down to Roddam Burn.

The Church of St. Michael is well worth a detour and was open when we visited. The interior - like most country churches is very well kept.

See the Churches Section of our Northumberland Cam site for more pictures.
